The Via Francigena in Lombardy travels with Trenord

The Via Francigena promotes sustainable mobility with Trenord. Reaching or traversing a section of the route in Lombardy is now cheaper.

Thanks to an agreement with the European Association of the Vie Francigene (EAVF), it is possible to buy a single-fare ticket with 10% discount on regional trains along the routes and between certain stations.

The offer is applied to pilgrims with the official Pilgrim Passport issued by the European Association of the Vie Francigene (for more information, visit www.viefrancigene.org/it/credenziali). Tickets with the "Vie Francigene" reduction can be purchased at the Trenord ticket offices of Mortara, Pavia, Milano Centrale, Milan Rogoredo and Brescia or online in the Discovery Train section of the www.trenord.it website, Trenord App, store.trenord.it and mobile.

It is an opportunity for pilgrims and tourists to get to know the Lombard stretch of the route that links Canterbury to Rome. Ticket offices along the route may also stamp Pilgrim Passports.

The initiative is aimed at promoting slow tourism in the region of Lombardy through the promotion of the use of trains and the enhancement of Lombardy's natural, commercial and touristic resources. The stations along the Via Francigena route include: Palestro, Robbio, Nicorvo, Mortara (ticket office), Gambolò, Tromello, Garlasco, Gropello, Pavia (ticket office), Motta S. Damiano, Albuzzano, Belgioioso, Corteolona, Santa Cristina, Miradolo Terme , Chignolo Po ', Lambrinia and Orio Litta, Milan Central (ticket office), Milan Rogoredo (ticket office) and Brescia (ticket office).

The agreement with Trenord integrates the sustainable mobility project launched in 2017 with Trenitalia in more than 200 Italian railway stations along the route of the Via Francigena, in the regions of Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Lazio. The offer allows you to take advantage of a 10% discount of the price of a regional ticket in the certain sections (more information on the website www.viefrancigene.org/it/trenitalia).

"It is an important new element in the promotion of the Via Francigena through the integration of walking and cycling with rail transport, the ecological means par excellence - says the president of the European Association of the Vie Francigene, Massimo Tedeschi - In this way we increase the utility of the Via Francigena, regardless of age and physicality. We now aim to propose the exemplary initiative to the railway companies of Switzerland, France and England - the other three countries crossed by the route - for sustainable European mobility ".
